Occupational therapy is a patient-centered health profession that enables people to participate in everyday life experiences. The goal of occupational therapy is to assist those with physical and mental disabilities regain purposeful activity in life tasks. The American Occupational Therapy association defines occupational therapy as “the art and science of directing man’s participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance, facilitate learning of those skills and functions essential for adaptation and productivity, diminish or correct pathology, and promote and maintain health.”
